ACMA Announces 2021 Culture and Media Award Recipients

 SAN DIEGO, CA – Asian Culture & Media Alliance (www.acmasocal.org) selected its 2021 award recipients in recognition of Asian & Pacific Islander individuals and organizations in our community who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, commitment to promoting our community and creating awareness of our diverse cultures through Media Arts.

ACMA’s 8th Anniversary Culture & Media Awards Gala will be held on Friday, December 10, at 6pm at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in San Diego.

Cathlyn Choi, founder and Executive Director of ACMA says, “Due to the pandemic in 2020, our 7th Anniversary event was 100% virtual online.  This year’s theme is Solidarity, Recognition and Resilience. Even though we are still planning a smaller event this year, we are still excited to celebrate our 8th anniversary in person, as we recognize and honor our 10 outstanding individuals and organizations throughout Southern California in the categories of Media & Performing Arts, Cultural Awareness and Community Outreach.”

This years Excellence in Media recipient includes the iconic Chinese American actress Nancy Kwan, for her Career Lifetime Achievement Award, South Asian TV host and producer Rasha Goel for Excellence in New Media, Korean American Actor/Producer James Kyson for Film Media Award and Filipina American Actress/Writer Georgina Tolentino to receive the Rising Star Filmmaker Award.

Chinese American Kiki Yeung, founder of Crazy Woke Asians Comedic Troup, Chinese American Author and Poet Marilyn Chin, Leilani Miranda of Makani Kai Polynesian Dance Group and Laotian American Ova Saopeng, TeAda Productions are also recipients of the Excellence in Performance Arts, Literary Media, Cultural Arts and Cultural Awareness Awards respectively.

Excellence in Community Outreach and Community Service Award recipients are Marilyn Chin, CEO of Legacy Maker and former Ms. Asian North America 2016, Miss Kaanchan Farkiya, respectively.

ACMA’s 8th Anniversary Culture & Media Awards Gala sponsors include Carma Media Productions, Dance N Groove DJ & Entertainment, Global Atlantic Financial Group, HHJ Trial Attorneys and Transamerica Financial Advisors.

The Hollywood themed event is scheduled to start at 6:00pm with VIP reception, live music, red carpet, Hollywood photo set, classic car displays and opportunities for media interviews followed by awards ceremony, live performances, DJ music and dancing until 11pm.
